Tye MacDonald grew up outside of Great Falls, MT and is the third generation in a ranching family. Horses have been in his blood and his heart for as long as he can remember. “Even at four or five years old all I wanted to do was ride. I would beg my Dad to break a horse just for me and go to bed at night praying for my own horse to ride.” He finally got his wish when at 11 years old Tye broke one of the ranch colts himself just so he could call it his own. He’s been training horses ever since.
"Even at four or five years old all I wanted to do was ride."
Throughout high school, college and graduate school working with horses occupied every spare moment; starting colts, taking on problem horses, working on cattle, horse and guest ranches and packing into the backcountry. After completing his MS in Animal and Range Science at Montana State University, Bozeman, he began training full time. Tye began his show career in 2002 and acclimated quickly to the mental and physical demands of competition. Working with show-caliber horses was a natural progression toward achieving excellence in both the horse and trainer. Striving to realize the truly exceptional potential of each horse is the cornerstone of Tye’s training philosophy.
Tye and his wife Tammy moved their family to the Paso Robles, CA area in 2007 after their favorite clients and their horses, Fred & Lucy Leadbeater of All Star Cowhorses, settled here to escape the lengthy Montana winters. Maddy and baby brother Luke seem to be OK with the substitution of sand castles for snowmen. We couldn't have wished for a more enthusiastic and supportive community of horse-minded people.
